Intramuros,
meaning “within the walls”, was the glorious old city of Manila. Originally the native settlement of
Moslems ruled by Rajah Sulayman, it
became an encircled city of massive high stone walls, bulwarks and moats with
the arrival of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi in 1521. Within the walls of 4.5 kms.
Encircling an area of 64 ha. rose residences, churches, schools and government

East.
The
main landmark of the city, the BonifacioMonument is located at
the intersection of Rizal Avenue
& EDSA. The monument commemorates the most proletarian of all Filipino
heroes, Gat Andres Bonifacio. The monument was immortalized by a great Filipino
national artist for sculpture, Guillermo Tolentino.
The
first Catholic Church in CaloocanCity. On June 28, 2003,
his holiness John Paul II created the new Diocese of Caloocan, comprising CaloocanCity - South, MalabonCity
& the Municipality of Navotas & elevated this ParishChurch to the level & dignity of a
CathedralChurch. The Holy Father appointed the
most Rev. Deogracias S. Iñiguez, Jr.
D.D. as the first Bishop of the New Diocese of Caloocan on August 22, 2003.
Started
in July 1998, Balsa sa Niugan is owned by Mr. Santy Geronimo, a native from
Niugan, balsa has 350 seating capacity, a native inspired place with 43
workers. It has a total land area of 5,000 sq. meters, in both land and water. Located
at the heart of Malabon, Balsa was originally a fishpond converted into a
floating restaurant and a fishing garden. Its natural landscape, fishing and
open dining facilities make it a pleasurable place for guests to dine.
Depository of paintings and sculptures done by the noted
members of the Sining Tambobong Foundation. Contemporary and Modern Malabon
painters and sculptors are members of this Foundation. Their works are
displayed in both national and international art exhibitions.
This
monument has been in its present location for decades. Its base used to be
around seven feet tall. But due to the continued rising of the sea level that
resulted in constant flooding, the ground had to be constantly raised. That
explains the current short base of this monument.
ManilaBay provides Navotas with bountiful source of
fish and other marine products, which constitute the basic diet of the town’s
residents. Navotas, home to low marginal fisherman and big time trawlers, own
the most modern sophisticated fishing boats dominating the fishing ground of
the country today. Marketing of the catch is done in a modern market complex
known as NavotasFisheryPort, premiere fish center of the Philippines with an area of 47.5 hectares and
one of the largest in Asia under the
supervision of PFDA (Philippine Fisheries Development Authority). It is a
traditional landing place of commercial fishing boats operating in various
fishing grounds in the Philippines situated on a 47.5-hectare reclaimed land at
the Northeastern section of ManilaBay. Within the complex
is a thriving fishing industry, supplying fish in major markets of Metro
manila. Thousands of buyers visit the
port daily where an estimated 20 commercial fishing vessels call port and
unload a total volume of about 800 tons.
Overland vehicles from different provinces also bring in addition,
another volume of 50 tons. Outside the
complex is a business center with banks,
markets, restaurants, and recreational facilities.

Navotas is not gifted with vast areas of lands filled with attractions,
it is home to almost
all vessels in the archipelago
with its many dry docking facilities along the riverside which can accommodate
any type of vessel from fishing boats, passenger vessels, cargo vessels, towing
vessels to barges. Dry docking facilities available are as follows:
The
San Diego de Alcala Parish at Barangay Poblacion, the center of the old town of
Polo, was the
first Parish on the City. The ruins of the church, while not as old as the
parish, is a reminder of the 376 year-history of the town, now the City of Valenzuela.
Built
to serve as a historical and cultural site, as well as a place for cultural and
historical exhibits and performances. It also serves as a starting point for
tourism and pilgrimage visitation to the City of Valenzuela.
The
tallest structure in the city, piercing 66 meters to the sky, is a fitting
tribute to the founder of Quezon City
and one of the country’s greatest statesmen – President Manuel Luis Quezon. The
monument, built in the center of the 27-hectare rotunda park, also boasts oftwo
museums – one housing priceless Quezonian items and the other memorabilia of Quezon City mayors. The
tomb containing the remains of this great man are laid to rest in a bronze
casket and marble niche inside the Shrine.
A
26 hectare circular park located in front of the Quezon CityHallBuilding encircled by
elliptical roads. Considered one of the
country’s premier landmarks, the site is a symbol of the people’s gratitude for
the First President of the Philippine Commonwealth and for whom Quezon City is named
after. It is the spot marked out by President Quezon as the converging point of
the principal government offices.
The
world’s largest covered dome (in the 60’s) which towers 220 feet with a seating
capacity of 36,000. It has a total land area of 185,000 sq. ft. and a diameter
of 367 feet. The coliseum has staged various shows from the moment it captured
the Philippines’
first post-war world boxing title by the legendary Gabriel “Flash” Elorde. It
also presented the classic “Fight of a Lifetime” between Muhammad Ali and Joe
Frasier in 1976. Also worth mentioning are the countless beauty pageants and
basketball tournaments of national and international tones plus local shows
ranging from musical concerts to athletic events.
Our
Lady of EDSA Shrine. It was built
by the grateful Filipino people in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary for her
protection and guidance during the people power EDSA revolution.
Spurred
by the death of natural resources resulting from the continuous growth in
residential areas, the City of Marikina
took pains in rehabilitating and converting the 220 ha. MarikinaRiver into a sports
and recreational park.
The
former Bigasang Bayan of Marikina,
rehabilitated and converted into a museum. The only shoe repository, existing
in the country, it houses a notable shoe collection to include some 778 pairs
belonging to the former First Lady Imelda R.
Marcos. The museum is a showcase not only of the premier product of Marikina but also of the
industriousness and ingenuity of the Marikeños.
Displayed
at the Riverbanks Mall gallery, the
biggest shoe in the World is certified by the Guiness Book of World Records measuring 5.29 meters long and 2.37 meters
wide. It is made of genuine leather and took 72 days to finish. The shoe can be
worn by a 125 ft.-tall person fit 30 people inside. The leather material used
can produce 250 regular pairs of shoes.
River
Carabaos Marikina was considered as
the largest private hacienda in the Philippines during the early years
of Spanish colonization. Its residents were comprised mostly of farmers whose
main crops were rice and vegetables. The town folks had bountiful harvest
enabling each family to own more than two carabaos, even a dozen or so. At the
time, to possess several carabaos served as a symbol of progress for the town
and wealth for the families. From stories and accounts of old owners, the Marikina city government
traced the old carabao trail which was the regular route taken from their
owner's homes to the fields and vice versa. About 28 stone built carabaos were
placed in the path along the riverbanks of Kalumpang serving as an attraction
and as a marker of the once scenic and abundant Marikina farmland.
Built
on 1895, the church is a sanctuary to the 400-year-old image of the town Patron
Saint San Juan Bautista, (St. John the
Baptist) where the town derived its name.
Ortigas Ave., Greenhills The
home of the foremost, biggest yet unequalled flea market in the Philippines,
the Greenhills Tiangge, where shoppers experience the exciting bargain buys
almost the whole year through. Christmas holidays however, bring about an
incomparable plenitude of goods and shoppers crowding the vicinity with an
animated Christmas show as an added attraction traditionally showcased at the
COD Department Store in Cubao.
Like
other Catholic churches in the Philippines,
it was run by hostile Spanish friars and almost became the site of bloody

Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is situated in the southern part of the island of Luzon, largest of the three main islands in the Philippine archipelago. Geographically, it is the seventh largest city in Metropolitan Manila (also known as National Capital Region). According to the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC), the historic, cultural, political and economic centre of the Philippines is also a Beta+ global city. Presidential Decree No. 940 proclaimed Manila as the Philippines’ seat of government. The Malacañan Palace, Manila’s equivalent to the White House, is located in the San Miguel district of Manila.
Caloocan Cityis one of the cities and municipalities that comprise the National Capital Region of Metro Manila in the Philippines. Located just north of the capital City of Manila, Caloocan City is a major residential area in Metro Manila. As of the 2007 census, the city’s population is 1,378,856 and it is third most populous city in the Philippines. Caloocan City has a total land area of 55.80 km² making it the 2nd largest city in Metro Manila in terms of land area. It is considered as a 1st class highly urbanized city with 188 barangays.
The city of Caloocan is divided into two separate areas. Southern Caloocan City lies directly north of the City of Manila while Northern Caloocan City, which is larger than its southern counterpart, is the northernmost territory of Metro Manila.
Malabon Cityis one of the cities and municipalities that comprise Metro Manila in the Philippines. Located just north of Manila, the city has a population of approximately 340,000. The city is primarily a residential and industrial town and is one of the most densely populated cities in the metropolis.
The city is part of the informal CAMANAVA sub-region of Metro Manila. CAMANAVA consists of Caloocan City, Malabon City, Navotas, and Valenzuela City. Caloocan lies to the south and east, Navotas to the west, and Valenzuela to the north. Malabon also borders the town of Obando in the province of Bulacan to the northwest.
Navotasis one of the last 2 municipalities that just became a city in Metro Manila, Philippines. The city occupies a narrow strip of land along the eastern shores of Manila Bay. Navotas is directly north of Manila, west of Malabon City, and south of Obando, Bulacan.
Navotas is a very important fishing community and considered to be the"Fishing Capital of the Philippines."70% of its population deriving their livelihood directly or indirectly from fishing and its related industries (fish trading, fish net mending, fish producing) (marginal % inter-Island fish producers). Navotas occupies a portion of the Metropolitan Manila bound in the west with shoreline of Manila Bay. It is blessed with a strategic coastal front and suitable for all kinds of vessel.
It is a long island system presenting an aggregate shoreline of approximately 4.5 km. The total population was 229, 039 as of the 1995 census. The municipality consists of 14 Barangays. It has been classified as a 1st Class Municipality.
The city of Valenzuela is situated in the northern part of the National Capital Region. Valenzuela City, together with Navotas, Malabon, Pateros, Taguig, and Muntinlupa, form the Metro Manila outer ring of towns. It is bounded to the north and northwest by Caloocan City and Malabon, and to the west by Navotas. The city occupies a total land area of 47 square kilometers.
Quezon City has been dubbed as the “City of New Horizons” holds truth when it comes to culture and lifestyle – the experience is fresh and not quite what would be expected of the usual urban setting.
Fast becoming a famous landmark in the metropolis is the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Nature Center, an experience of nature within the city. Conveniently located at the heart of Quezon City, the area was developed to simulate a natural forest setting and serve as a breather from high-rise and concrete. Dilimanin Quezon City ishome to the University of the Philippines,the country’s foremost institute of higher learning and considered the finest in the Far East. UP was established in June 1908, and is sprawled over an area of 450 hectares. The state-owned university has produced many of the country’s best leaders, artists, writers, and professionals. The city is likewise the home of Camps Crame and Aguinaldo, two of the most important military headquarters where the famous four-day peaceful rebellion called People Power or EDSA Revolution of 1986 had started.
Quezon City is 10 km. north of Manila. To the city's east are San Mateo, Rizal and Marikina City; to the west are San Juan and the city of Manila; to the north are Caloocan City and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan; and to the south are the cities of Pasig and Mandaluyong. Quezon City is five times bigger than Manila, and in area, it is second to the country's biggest city, Davao City.
Rolling hills spread over a large portion of Quezon City. Its lowest altitude is 25 feet above sea level while its highest is 55. The city occupies a total land area of 166.2 square kilometers The total population was 1,989,419 as of the 1995 census.
A city once threatened by a residential housing pandemonium, Marikinahas emerged to reap various national awards for excellence in local governance and environmental preservation. In 2002 alone, it was a“Clean and Green”awardee of the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran– a category for which it has already been a Hall of Famer as early as in 1996, when it was still a municipality. On the same year, Marikina was also recognized for having a healthy workplace and marketplace. In various occasions, the city has been awarded as well as the“Best Local Government Unit.”
The city is no stranger to popularity. It has long been famous for its export-quality shoes, the products that gave Marikina the monicker,Shoe Capital of the Philippines. Part of the collection are the famous Imelda Marcos shoes. Marikina, a lush valley bounded by mountain ranges and sliced by a river, is one of the twelve cities and five municipalities comprising the Metro Manila area. It is approximately 16 km. away from Manila, passing through Quezon City. It occupies a total land area of 38.9 sq. kilometers. The total population was 357,231 as of the 1995 census. The city is composed of 14 Barangays under one Congressional District. It has been classified as a Highly Urbanized City.
San Juan is synonymous Greenhills. This place is a shopping mecca; a one-stop shop for goodies of all kinds. Shopping addicts won’t want to leave. Famous for its tiangge (market stalls), Greenhills is the go-to place for bargains.

San Juan is located at the very core of the metropolis. It only has a land area of 5.94 square kilometers, which accounts for a less than one percent of the total land area of National Capital Region, the urban center of the country. Its size has become an advantage because it is easier to manage and govern.
It is bounded by Quezon City to the North and East, Mandaluyong City to the South and Manila to the West. This heart-shaped city has a total population of more than 200,000 presently.
Mandaluyong,the heart of the “Golden Triangle” (Manila, Makati, and Quezon City), has finally emerged as a veritable boom city. It is one of the leading business and industrial centers in the country today, the “New Tiger” of Metro Manila, which made an unprecedented giant leap to progress.
Mandaluyong lies on a heart-shaped 26 sq. km. of land, 7 km. southeast of Manila and 8 km. west of Pasig. To the south lies Makati, to the northwest, San Juan, and to the northeast, Quezon City. Thus, Mandaluyong is located at the very center of Metro Manila. With this geographical advantage, it has in recent years emerged as a veritable boomtown, the leading business and industrial mecca of the country.
The total population was 286,870 as of the 1995 census. Mandaluyong City is composed of 27 Barangays under one Congressional District. It has been classified as a Highly Urbanized City.
